Hockey Tuesday are becoming a nice a little tradition here on MVP Draft Room. I like it. I like it a lot! We have eleven games in total on the slate tonight. Of course we aren't going to make picks from every game, but there are some games that I think can provide some positive action for us!
Here's the best of what I like for today in the world of Hockey!
Devils/Stars Under 5.5 (+100 Hard Rock)
nJD Projected Goalie: Connor Hellebuyck (1st Game of Season)
DAL Projected Goalie: Casey DeSmith (1-1-0, .925 SV%, 1.95 GAA)
I'll be honest. I was getting ready to post this write up and the Devils made a change to their projected goalie for tonight. CONNOR HELLEBUYCK IS PLAYING HIS FIRST GAME TONIGHT!!! Sound the alarms!
At first I was going to post a Stars moneyline play, but this news changes everything! Give me that Under NOW!!!
In all seriousness, it is a little irresponsible to jump in hard on Hellbuyck because this is his first game of the season. However, I doubt he'll be absolute garbage! He's going to play well to prove a point.
Also, DeSmith has been solid for the Stars as a backup goalie. Yes, we've only seen him in only two games this season, but the Stars defense has been stellar!
I'm expecting both goalies to stand on their heads in net and the Stars defense to win the battle against the Devils offense. Under all day and twice on Sundays!
Islanders/Predators Under 5.5 (+101 Bet365/Caesars)
nYI Projected Goalie: Semyon Varlamov (0-1-2, .899 SV%, 2.25 GAA)
nSH Projected Goalie: Juuse Saros (3-2-3, .908 SV%, 2.82 GAA)
At first glance, I wanted to pick the Predators to win tonight's matchup outright. The main two reasons being: Varlamov is winless so far for the Islanders and the Predators have a better record at home compared to the Islanders road record. However, when looking a little deeper. You'll find out Varlamov is winless, but has not given up more than three goals in a game outside his first start vs the Rangers. Also, the Predators home record is better, but they are 4-6 in their last ten games overall. They are not a team worth putting our faith in to win outright.
Both these teams thought do have something in common. Their offenses haven't been lighting up the lamp at an impressive rate. Both the Islanders and the Predators offense are averaging UNDER three goals scored a game so far this season.
Adding on to that, both goalies aren't given up a ton of goals in their games this season. Yes, Saros has the bigger sample size by a large margin. However, both Varlamov and Saros aren't letting opponents score three goals often against them. They've just fallen prey to have subpar offenses in front of them.
I feel much more confident in this being a 2-1 or 3-2 win either way.
Canadiens ML (+105 SCORE)
MTL Projected Goalie: Jacob Fowler (5-1-0, .924 SV%, 1.79 GAA)
STL Projected Goalie: Jordan Binnington (1-2-0, .831 SV%, 4.68 GAA)
This game pick is very simple. FADE JORDAN BINNINGTON!
Binnington is an absolute liability for the Blues whenever they have a game were Hofer needs a day or night off. To put in perspective how bad Binnington is, Kevin Lankinen and Dustin Wolf are the two goalies averaging more goals given up per game.
The Canadiens are also playing very well right now. They are currently 5-2 in their last seven games and are riding a two game win streak heading into tonight's game. They are catching their stride.
Jacob Fowler is also playing out of his MIND for Montreal right now. He currently sits tied for 5th when it comes to the LEAST goals given up per game this season. This goaltending matchup and the Canadiens potential to put up offense are why I'm backing the Habs tonight!
