NFL Plays & Predictions: Week 6
Photo: NFL.com
Last week sucked for us. Plain and simple. The picks from Week 5 went a POOR 1-2 which while I understand every pick or play isn't going to hit, but that doesn't live up to the standard I strive for from my picks! No one can question that I HATE to lose!
We need to put last week behind us though. We need to turn our attention to Week 7's games and find the spots that can take us to the Promise Land.
Here's the games I'm focusing on this week:
Browns ML (+150 FanDuel)
Browns head coach Todd Monken isn't trying to give a team as good as Baltimore ANY bulletin board material heading into this Sunday's early slate matchup.
Monken has slated there aren't any added emotions, making it seem like this game is business as usual. However, the Ravens aren't buying it. Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey said, "If I know Todd the way I think I know Todd, he will want to kick our tail."
I agree with Humphrey here. Monken wants to win this game and I KNOW the Browns want to win this game. You might be thinking, " No duh Ricky! Teams want to win every game they play in a season." True, teams want to win every game they play, but some games raise that want level because it's personal.
Lamar Jackson will not being playing in this game, and while Tyler Huntley is good, he's NOT Lamar Jackson. Also, most of the quarterbacks the Ravens have played had solid games against them. Yes, the Ravens are 4-1 on the season, but they aren't a dominate 4-1 team in my opinion.
I'm not letting last week change how I feel about this Browns team. Let's be honest, they probably beat the Jets if their punter doesn't fumble a punt dur to the rain/weather. The Browns are a well coached team this season and Deshaun Watson is performing this season.
Go BIG or go home! Give me the Browns to win this PERSONAL game against a division rival and former team of their head coach!
Panthers -3.5 (+102 Bet365)
I think the Panthers are getting disrespected this game by the books! They opened up the week as a slim point and a half favorites, but have moved to three and a half point favorites after the Friday news about the Eagles inactive players.
The Eagles announced that quarterback Jalen Hurts was going to hit the IR with blood clots and will be out indefinitely (our prayers go out the Jalen obviously as blood clots are super scary). With that being said, the books only moved the Panthers to -3.5 with BOTH Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley out this weekend.
I do not have the faith in Tanner McKee to be good enough in this game to beat the Panthers. He now becomes the "weakest" quarterback the Panthers will has so far this season. Also, I know this game is in Philly and a road game for the Panthers, but this Panthers team has shown they can win on the road when facing a subpar quarterbacks. The Eagles also had to travel back from England this week with could create small problems for the Eagles.
I personally think this line should be larger and will definitely take Panthers -3.5 at plus money!
Chiefs -7.5 (-105 MGM/FanDuel)
Undefeated vs Winless is the matchup at Arrowhead this Sunday. The Chiefs look for their fifth win of the season while the Chargers are looking to avoid their sixth straight loss to start the season.
I can see exactly why the books set the line at -7.5 for this game. The Chargers have kept the final score close in each of their last three games against playoff caliber teams. Over their last three games, they've lost to the Broncos by six, the Seahawks by seven, and the Bills by eight. The games against the Seahawks and Bills were even on the road too.
On the other hand, the Chiefs have played only two road games this season against the Dolphins and the Raiders. They beat the Dolphins handedly by fourteen points, but they only beat the Raiders by three points.
However, the Chiefs are coming off the Bye Week coming into this game. This is BAD NEWS for the Chargers because Chiefs head coach Andy Reid teams is very good when coming off of the Bye Week.
Over his career, Reid's teams are 22-5 straight up when coming off the Bye Week and are 20-2 straight up when they are the only team in the game coming off the Bye Week. He's 9-4 straight up with the Chiefs when coming off the Bye Week and is 6-2 with Patrick Mahomes at quarterback when coming off the Bye Week. He also has a 62.9% ATS cover rate when coming off of the Bye Week.
I have faith in Andy Reid to have his team ready to go for Sunday's game. With the post-Bye Week resume he has, it's hard not to back the Chiefs in this game.
